Maru Haru (Mah - ɾɯ Hah - ɾɯ) is an Austin-based indie rock band based in Austin, TX led by singer-songwriter James Tabata. Their songs portray Asian American and queer experiences, making peace with family and society, and moving along with empathy. Musical influences include video games, math rock, impressionist classical music, J-Pop, and indie folk. Their upcoming album "Dearly Belated" has songs dedicated to deceased love, proud allies, and past selves who needed hope. Composed of friends, music teachers, and software developers, Maru’s goal is to spread fun, compassion, and wonder.
“Dearly Belated” is currently being mixed and mastered with Elise Etherton and Hungry Dog Studio, to be released in late 2024
